Guanabana Flowers

We have a couple of guanabana trees in our garden. They produce a chunky fruit that, when ripe, can weigh anything from 4-10 kg. The fruit is filled with white flesh and inedible black seeds. To me, it seems like a whole bunch of peeled lychees stuffed in a strange skin. When the seeds have been taken out of the flesh, it makes amazing, distinctive smoothies or juices..

Having our own trees allows us to see how we get the fruit that we buy in the supermarket.

The picture shows an immature guanabana fruit, about 10 cm in length.

After loosing a few guanabanas to bugs and birds, we were advised to put a sleeve around them. This one is still immature but already about 20 cm long and 15 cm wide.

The thing that caught my eye is the flowers.

The flower is about 4 cm big, and a yellowish green colour. They are quite difficult to see hidden in the leaves.

This open flower is on a stem where we had previously harvested a mature guanabana. There are three unopened flowers also on the same stem. I am fascinated with the idea of reusing a “successful” stem to start new fruit. Lets see how it works out.
